Bluetti AC50s 500wh Solar Power Generator

Bluetti AC50s Solar Power Generator

This small package carries a big punch of power and features. It is an amazing piece of technology.

It is fairly light weight and has all the essential requirements for a solar power generator. It has handles on the top that flip up when needed and fold down when not. It has a 10w wireless charging platform on the top, 4 USB ports, a PD45W USB C outlet, 2 barrel plug 12v outlets, 1 12v cigarette lighter outlet and 2 EU DC plug outlets, (220-240V 300W, Pure Sine Wave). The LCD is a graphic display that shows power input, DC output and AC output in watts. On the back is the barrel plug power input and a large 3 way LED lamp, (Bright, low, SOS in morse code). There is an MPPT controller for the most efficient use of the incoming power. Of course this intelligent device does not allow itself to be overcharged. It also has internal fans that keep it cool when necessary.

Bluetti AC50s Solar Power Generator

If not being used the AC50s turns itself off after 10 minutes to save on power.

In the box comes the solar power generator, AC power adapter for charging, cigarette lighter plug and cable for charging, MC4 cable, USB C cable and the user manual.

The AC50s allows you to charge the power generator while using it to power and charge other devices. So, for instance, right now I have my phone sitting on the wireless charger and my wireless modem plugged into a USB port. The LCD display tells me that there is more power coming into the solar generator than going out.

While this compact solar power generator is portable it is too large and heavy for backpacking but is absolutely perfect for car camping and traveling, motorhomes, boats, off grid cabins, picnics, small events and emergency power at home or away.

Using the Bluetti AC50s

I’ve been using this with 2 different foldable solar panels, the Bluetti 120w and the Solar Shine 100w. I recommend using it with at least a 100w solar panel. Both panels charge it dependably. The 120w Bluetti panel a little faster. It takes about 6 hours of sun to charge the AC50s completely. It took about 7 hours to charge it from a wall outlet and from the cigarette lighter in the car while driving. The Bluetti ACS50s is rated for 2500+ recharges so it makes a very good long term investment. The literature states that it can stay charged for up to 6 months without recharging if being stored. That makes it a perfect power backup for emergencies.

Set up is incredibly easy. Just set it down on any clean and dry surface out of the direct sun but close enough to the solar panel to connect it. Plug in the 8mm barrel plug from the solar panel into the power input on the back of the unit and that’s it. The LCD will display the battery level and the amount of power coming into the AC50s. Do not cover the unit or place it in a box. The internal fans need to have access to air to keep the unit cool.

To use any of the DC outlets just push and hold the DC button and you are ready to go. To use the AC outlets press the AC button.

After the sun is gone I disconnect the unit from the solar panel and keep it turned off until I need it. At night I bring it into the tent to charge my electronics overnight. Using DC takes less power than using AC so I use DC whenever possible. For the electric cooler I connect it to the 12v cigarette lighter outlet rather than the AC outlet.

I found a soft square cooler bag with outside pockets that the Bluetti fits into perfectly for carrying and storage for about €8. This bag keeps the unit clean and dry and had a handle for easy carrying. The bag is slightly padded offering a little more protection. The outside pockets hold all the charging cables and power supply. I found this bag in a discount store in Riga, Latvia but I am sure you can find one wherever you are.
